The castle of Azay-le-Rideau is built on an island in the middle of the Indre under the patronage of François Ier. A subtle alliance of French traditions and innovative decorations from Italy, it is an icon of the new art of building in the Loire Valley in the 16th century. Its landscaped park, designed in the second half of the 19th century, affords this castle a very natural setting.
In 1905, the state became the owner of the Château d’Azay-le-Rideau. Its successive owners have contributed to making it the most harmonious architectural jewel in the Loire Valley.
